Leadership Lessons from the Tour de France

The Slipstream – allows you to save energy and go the same speed with less work. Less energy exerted when in the slipstream behind another cyclist. Go further faster while conserving your calories.

Know Your Role – the goal of the team in the Tour de France is to protect the leaders of the team. The leaders is rarely in front, but instead usually behind and surrounded by the team.

The Peloton – the main group of every race. The Peloton provides safety and security. A breakaway rider usually gets caught at some point in the race by the Peloton.

Constant Teamwork – each stage of a race requires a new and different strategy from the team. If the team doesn’t work together, it’s difficult for any rider to win a race. Most Tour de France winners come from the best Tour de France teams.

Little Changes and Big Gains – little changes can add up to big gains. A small change in your handlebars, or shoes, or chain, or the bike seat can add up to major differences in time and your success.
